A Lock Haven Christmas

We spent the Christmas holiday in Lock Haven visiting our son and daughter who attend college there. They couldn't get off work, so we packed everything up and went there. Thankfully, the weather was more like early spring, and the sun shone on Lock Haven the whole weekend. It was in the low 40's both days, so I had the chance to get out and walk around. There is a hiking path that runs on top of the levee that keeps Lock Haven safe from flooding. The path runs 2.5 miles from end to end.The views of the mountains are outstanding, and the architecture of some of the houses is just amazing.

St. James Episcopal Church Festivities

Today at St. James Episcopal Church the annual Boars Head dinner was held. This year we also all joined in to help decorate the church for Christmas and as an added bonus, a wonderful pageant presented by the young people of our church was put on. It was a wonderful day all around the church.

I couldn't resist taking a picture of these amazing cookies that a member of our congregation made and brought to the dinner. The colors and the details just jumped right out. I can't imagine the time it took to make 2 large containers of these. I am glad I took the picture when I did, because they certainly didn't last very long!

Kennerdell Scenic Overlook

I have seen the sign for this overlook before and today, while I had some time to kill, decided to take a look. It was snowing a little and I think it gives the pictures a nice added touch. This would be a nice place to come back to during different seasons of the year especially in the fall during the peak of color.

Here we go!

This is going to document my attempts to learn how to use my DSLR camera, and hopefully as time goes on, the quality of the photos will show this progression.

I have a Pentax K-x DSLR I purchased a few months ago, and am still learning how to get the most out of the camera. I force myself to always shoot in manual mode, and most times I use lenses that are also manual without auto-focus.

I had originally planned to take and post a picture each day the coming year. but realize that would just lead to "taking" a picture each day instead of trying to improve my skills.

I drive by this old DeSoto each day on my way to and from work and today I stopped to get a few quick photos. They are not the best, but of course the day I decided to stop, it was raining, so I had to balance an umbrella, and try to focus at the same time. I also didn't have the amount of time I would have liked to take to get the pictures. I want to revisit the opportunity to re-shoot the car one of these days.
